Talia Joy Castellano: You Inspired Millions In Your Short Life ...

Talia, you were beautiful on the inside and outside, and you gave a full lifetime of inspiration to so many others in your own life, which was cut short by cancer at 13.

Talia Joy Castellano, you may have passed away from cancer on July 16 at a very young age , but you became a role model who will continue to give hope and strength to people young and old for years — even decades — to come.

Talia Joy Castellano, You Touched So Many Lives

Talia, you bravely fought the deadly childhood cancer neuroblastoma for seven years, as well as a second cancer, leukemia, but you never stopped smiling and living your life fully, despite your deadly diagnosis.

You didn’t feel sorry for yourself or spend any time moping about your fate. Instead you took joy (you were aptly named with the middle name, Joy) in doing the things you loved to do.

Making hundreds of instructional makeup videos on YouTube earned you millions and millions of views and fans.

Your videos were not only incredibly fun and helpful to girls and young women who wanted to get anything from a day-to-night smokey eye to a multi-colored Nicki Minaj look, but they were so natural and charming.

Your effervescent and intelligent personality shone through in every one of the clips that you produced from home.

You Didn’t Let Your Cancer Get You Down

Chemotherapy may have deprived you of your hair, but it only enabled your beautiful face, big expressive eyes and infectious smile and giggle to shine even more.

Yes, you were an inspiration to other childhood and teenage cancer sufferers, who watched you fulfill your dreams and live your life to the max on these videos. You were a role model to anyone who needed a push to go ahead — no matter what challenge they faced — and make their own dreams happen.

How could anyone whine and complain that life was too hard and that reaching their goals wasn’t easy, after they watched even one of your videos? They just brimmed with your enthusiasm for life.

Wonderfully, you became an honorary CoverGirl and you were “discovered” and befriended by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who brought you on her show.

But none of that fame changed you from the friendly, young woman eager to help others, that you were.

You said you didn’t think about dying, despite your medical condition, in a video that you made with The Truth 365 in 2012.

You Lived Life To The Very Fullest

“I’m just living life as I can … sometimes it’ll hit me and I cry that I have two types of cancer and nothing (no treatment) can really control it anymore, but I’m going to do all the things I ever wanted to do and live while I can,” you explained.

Despite running out of treatments to cure your cancer, you remained optimistic. “If I set my heart to it, then I’m going to be ok and I’m going to try to live every moment like my last one.”

You said you really didn’t have any fears — “I feel like I’ve done the things I wanted to do, which was to bring attention to this (childhood cancer),” you explained.

Well, you certainly did that, because so many people don’t realize how many children die from cancer every year — 2,500 — while 13,500 kids, will be diagnosed every year.

More research and more treatments are needed so that other young girls like you, Talia, don’t need to die anymore from this dreadful disease.

Talia, you loved makeup and you loved showing other young women how to wear it — you said it was “fun.” But through making your “fun” hobby happen in a very public way, you were able to inspire so many others to live their lives with the same kind of amazing courage that you had.

Rest in peace, little angel. Our prayers at HollywoodLife go out to you and your grieving family. The world is a much better place because you were part of it.

Talia, inspirational young YouTube sensation, dies of cancer ...

(CNN) — A 13-year-old makeup guru, YouTube fixture and Internet inspiration for thousands has passed away.

Talia Joy Castellano, known to her followers as Talia Joy, rose to Internet fame through her detailed makeup “vlogs,” or video logs, in which she shared product reviews, techniques and cosmetics tutorials. She often said that makeup was a way for her to feel beautiful and express herself despite the physical pains of cancer treatment.

Besides sharing her skills, Talia also shared her struggles: The teenager battled cancer for six years, and this past March, she informed her fans that the cancer had spread to her right hip and skull, and in all likelihood, she would lose her fight with the disease.

In the past few months, Talia’s social accounts were taken over by her friends and family as her health and energy waned. On Tuesday, the Angels for Talia Facebook page posted a heartbreaking update:

“It is with a heavy heart that we share with all of you that Talia has earned her wings at 11:22 a.m. Please lift her beautiful soul, her beautiful light to heaven and please send your love and prayers to her family during this most difficult time. God speed little one, may you be free from pain and suffering, may your soul feel the light and love that you brought to so many of us on this Earth during the short time you were here with us. We will miss you more than you will ever know baby girl.”

Almost immediately, condolences and messages of support and appreciation began pouring onto her Facebook page and YouTube channel. “Talia, you were so strong,” reads one recent YouTube comment. “You will never, ever, ever be forgotten. I love you so much. You are the most inspiring person ever.”

Talia’s influence became so wide, she was invited to be on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” in September. When asked how she stayed positive throughout her ordeal, Talia said to host Degeneres, “A little fishy once told me, just keep swimming.”

Degeneres and Cover Girl then surprised Talia with an “honorary cover girl” title, a makeup table and $20,000. “That’s because you’re so beautiful, Talia,” Degeneres said. “You’re a beautiful, beautiful person.”

When her condition took a turn for the worst, Talia was not shy to admit that no amount of makeup or cheer could hide the reality she knew all too well.

“When I talk to people about the way I feel about death or my cancer, some people are just like — you could, like … the way I talk is very explicit because I face reality,” she said in one of her last cancer vlogs.

“It’s not like I’m happy or something, it’s that I face reality … I’m very truthful. But I believe that I can fight it, and I believe that I can beat the crap out of cancer.”

This Tuesday, July 16, the world lost a beautiful young girl who inspired millions with her story of positivity and unyielding hope. Talia Castellano, who went by TaliaJoy18 on YouTube, was an honorary covergirl, makeup guru, and tutorialist, all at the tender age of thirteen. Her legacy of overwhelming passion, love, and desire to “just keep swimming” is immortalized not just in the videos she leaves behind, but in the “handprints and footprints she left on the world,” according to her older sister.

Talia suffered from neuroblastoma, a very severe and aggressive type of cancer, for over six years. Though Talia was young and very sick, she refused to let these things define her; she channeled her energy into making uplifting, funny, and incredibly heartfelt YouTube videos, mostly consisting of makeup tutorials. Talia refused to wear a wig after loosing her hair to cancer treatments, boldly proclaiming, “makeup is my wig.”

Talia’s upbeat personality and inspiring story caught the attention of YouTubers, with her videos grossing over 40 million views and attracting a plethora of celebrity attention, including that of talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. DeGeneres went on to make Talia an honorary CoverGirl model, giving her the chance to host a radio show and meet Justin Beiber, whom the makeup guru was a huge fan of.

Talia’s passing was reported on her official Facebook page, saying that she had “earned her wings” at 11:22 AM. A huge outpouring of sympathy and support has taken over the page’s comments, with many people talking about how Talia inspired them to “just keep swimming.”

A few days before passing, Talia hand wrote a “bucket list,” which included such activities as horseback riding and “messy twister.” The hashtag #taliasbucklist has been used by her fans as they share pictures and stories of themselves completing tasks from the list in Talia’s memory.

Talia was a supporter of the BASE network, which helps children with cancer and their families. Their official page can be found here, and their donation page can be found here.

Though Talia is no longer with us, her videos, heart, and story will continue to touch many. May Talia help us all remember to “just keep swimming.”
